A dumb phone is a phone that calls, texts, and then leaves you alone. No app store, no feed, no notifications competing for your evening. This site tests them and writes down what actually happens, including when the answer is inconvenient.
Most of what you will read elsewhere about feature phones is two years out of date. Models get discontinued quietly, apps get pulled, and the review that ranked first was written before any of it happened. Every model named here is checked against what is on sale now, and we say plainly when something we used to recommend has stopped being a good idea.
Start here: can a dumb phone still run WhatsApp?
This is the question that decides most purchases, and the honest answer changed recently. WhatsApp pulled its KaiOS app in 2024 and ended support in 2025, which means the Nokia 6300 4G, the 8000 4G, the 2720 Flip and every other KaiOS handset can no longer run it, whatever the product listing still claims. Choosing by what matters to you
- A dumb phone with a usable camera : most basic handsets stop at a 0.3MP sensor, which is not a camera in any meaningful sense. Here is where the line actually is.

How we test, and what we will not do
Three rules. We never name a model without checking that it is still on sale, because a discontinued recommendation is worse than no recommendation. We never claim a feature the manufacturer does not document, even when it seems obvious; if we cannot verify it, we say so. And we do not quote prices, which change weekly and would be wrong by the time you read this.
