The short answer is uncomfortable: no Nokia phone on sale today runs WhatsApp. Not the 2660 Flip, not the 2780 Flip, not the 110 4G, not the 235 4G. What makes this confusing is that they fail for two entirely different reasons, and half the advice online still describes the situation as it was in 2023.
Two families of Nokia, two different stories
Every Nokia keypad phone of the last few years falls into one of two camps, and knowing which one you are looking at answers the question immediately.
Series 30+ handsets never ran WhatsApp. This is Nokia’s deliberately minimal system, and it has never accepted third party applications of any kind. There is no store, no installer, no sideloading. The Nokia 2660 Flip, the 105, the 110 4G, the 225 4G and the 235 4G all belong here. If someone tells you WhatsApp used to work on one of these, they are thinking of a different phone.
KaiOS handsets ran WhatsApp, and lost it. KaiOS was the middle path: a lightweight system with a small app store and a cut-down WhatsApp. The Nokia 6300 4G, 8000 4G, 2720 Flip, 2760 Flip and 2780 Flip are the well known ones. WhatsApp began removing that app in 2024 and ended support in 2025. It is gone from the store, and the copies already installed stopped syncing. This is a decision by WhatsApp about the whole KaiOS family, not a bug waiting for a fix.

Why the listings still say otherwise
Product pages are not updated when an app disappears. A listing written in 2022 that mentions WhatsApp stays online exactly as it was, and the phone in the box is unchanged; what changed is on WhatsApp’s side. The reviews underneath tell the real story, and they are worth reading before you order any KaiOS handset.
In practice the Nokia 2780 Flip, the last KaiOS clamshell widely sold in the United States, has itself become hard to find: at the time of writing its listings show as unavailable. The category is not being replaced, because the software it depended on has no future.
Can you install it yourself anyway?
No, and the reason is worth understanding so you do not waste an evening on it. On Series 30+ there is no mechanism to install anything: no store, no file manager that runs code, nothing to sideload into. The phone is not locked down so much as simply not built for it. On KaiOS the store exists, but WhatsApp has been withdrawn from it, and an old copy pulled from elsewhere fails at the point where it tries to talk to WhatsApp’s servers, which no longer accept it. Both refusals are permanent.
If you already own one of these phones
You have a good phone that makes calls and texts for a week on a charge, and there is a reasonable way to keep WhatsApp in your life without carrying it. WhatsApp lets you link additional devices to one account, a computer or a tablet included, and those linked devices send and receive on their own once set up.
The catch, and it is the one nobody mentions: linking requires a primary phone that already runs WhatsApp, because that is what scans the code. Your Nokia cannot play that role. In practice this works only if you keep an old smartphone on Wi-Fi at home as the account holder, and bring it back online periodically, since linked devices are signed out when the primary stays offline too long. It is a workable arrangement for someone who genuinely wants the keypad phone in their pocket, and a fiddly one for anybody else.
So what do you do instead?
It depends on which half of the promise you actually care about, and it is worth being honest with yourself about that before spending anything.
If WhatsApp is the point
Then you need Android, in the smallest form you can tolerate. A compact Android phone keeps the pocket format and the deliberate smallness, but runs the real WhatsApp with normal updates. If the Nokia feel is the point
Then buy the keypad phone and let WhatsApp go. This is a more reasonable position than it sounds: you can keep WhatsApp on a laptop or a tablet, and the phone in your pocket goes back to being a phone. A plain 4G flip with no app store does calls and texts and lasts for days, and it will never tempt you, because there is nothing to install.
One thing to check whatever you buy
American carriers finished switching off 3G in 2022, so anything sold today is 4G or 5G. The remaining trap is certification: an imported handset that is not on your carrier’s approved list can be refused on the network even when the hardware is fine, and emergency calling is the part that tends to break. Check the approved device list, and check the phone supports VoLTE, which is how calls are actually carried now.
In short
- Series 30+ Nokia phones (2660 Flip, 105, 110, 225, 235) never had WhatsApp and never will. There is no store on them at all.
- KaiOS Nokia phones (6300 4G, 8000 4G, 2720, 2760 and 2780 Flip) lost it in 2025, when WhatsApp ended support for the platform.
- Listings that still advertise WhatsApp on these phones are old, not wrong on purpose. The phone did not change; the app went away.
- For WhatsApp, the category is compact Android. For the Nokia feel, buy the keypad phone and handle WhatsApp elsewhere.
